Burgundy Headlines for Sept 7th…

The second Rapids player to go on loan within a week as Berner makes his way to Phoenix to join the USL’s Rising F.C. Last week it was Caleb Calvert loaned out to the Rapids USL affiliate Charlotte Independence.

Kudos to Kroenke for getting involved with donating to the Red Cross. Stay safe everyone in the Carolinas and the rest of the Southeast with Irma approaching.

MacMath to miss 4-6 weeks…

This afternoon the Rapids announced Zac MacMath had undergone successful knee surgery today and will be out the next 4-6 weeks. Wait, what?

There aren’t many details from the club website. Story here.

Who knows what happened or when this injury came about. Was it from Saturday’s match or has this been a season long lingering issue? Regardless, best wishes on a speedy recovery Zac!

Howard will be in net for the MLS all-star game tomorrow night against Real Madrid. One would guess that he would also be in net for this weekend’s match against Vancouver with Berner as his backup. We’ll have to wait and see.

Independence get first win, 1-0 over LCFC…

Rapids USL affiliate Charlotte Independence grab their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Louisville City FC. John Berner gets the clean sheet for Charlotte with 6 saves and handing Louisville City their first loss of the season. Charlotte (1-2-2) moves up to 8th in the Eastern Conference from the 11th spot with 5 points. Charlotte takes much needed momentum into their next match Friday at home against Richmond.

Rapids take the pitch in a little over an hour against the Galaxy, let’s hope the Rapids can emulate their USL affiliate tonight and get a win as well.

Rapids add keeper Zac MacMath on loan from Union…

Another intra-league loan, oh joy! The Philadelphia Union loan keeper Zac MacMath to the Rapids for the 2015 season. MacMath, 23 was selected 5th overall in the 2011 Super Draft.

My two cents. MacMath has the experience, (4 years, 103 appearances in the league) in backing up Irwin or at least challenging Irwin for the starting job is certainly a good thing. The Rapids trading away of Joe Nasco to the Revolution, left only John Berner, who has just 5 appearances in 2014 his only season with the Rapids, as the only other keeper on the roster. So the move makes sense for the Rapids, yes I said “Rapids” and “makes sense” in the same sentence. I can guarantee you that this probably wont happen too much this season. The Rapids would give up a draft pick to the Union if MacMath becomes a permanent transfer. Welcome Zac MacMath!

“Great now we have a Zac and a Zat on the roster!” said no one ever.
