Here is your weekly recap of happenings in the world of burgundy and blue.
Mar 3 – Rapids release new primary kit for 2016. The Rapids maintained the simple look to this years kit.
Mar 4 – Rapids acquire Jermaine Jones in a sign and trade deal. Rapids shocked the league with what could be one of the biggest moves in their history, trading away general allocation money and a 2017 first round draft pick.
In what has been one of the busiest days for the Rapids since the end of last season, the Rapids today signed two of their 2016 Super Draft picks, goalkeeper Chris Froschauer (Ohio St.) and midfielder Emmanuel Appiah(Univ of Cincinnati).
Then late this afternoon, comes the announcement of the Rapids trade with the New England Revolution for Jermaine Jones. The Rapids trading away general allocation money and a first round pick in 2017. Jones will have to serve a 6 game suspension from last season, but still this is an instant upgrade to the midfield. Welcome to the team, Jermaine!

No I’m not saying this team makes the playoffs because of Jones alone, as there are a TON of variables that have to take place for that to happen. But you have to admit that we are much closer to that being at least a possibility.
Yesterday’s 2016 Super Draft in Baltimore was a busy one for a number of teams, but none more than the Rapids. The Rapids came into the Super Draft with the number 2 overall pick and there were rumblings ahead of time that there was possibility of them trading away the pick.
That pick was traded away to the Union, but prior to that, the Rapids had made a trade with the Galaxy, sending allocation monies away for the 12th overall pick. Then the Rapids traded away their 12th and 22nd picks to the Fire for their 15th and 33rd picks and their top allocation spot. That 15th pick would not be traded away as the Rapids used that pick on midfielder Emmanuel Appiah from the University of Cincinnati.
The Rapids now with the #1 allocation spot, came the rumors of the Rapids going after U.S. International Alejandro Bedoya, of French side Nantes as reported by Taylor Twellman.
Then soon after the Rapids made another trade, this time with Western Conference rival, FC Dallas, trading away the 33rd pick for the 37th and 57th picks. The 37th pick was spent on defender Dennis Castillo out of VCU.
At the end of the day, the Rapids made a lot of moves, confusing most of them. Are the Rapids are any better coming away from the first two rounds as they were going in? No. Rounds 3 and 4 of the draft take place on Tuesday the 19th.
