Burgundy Headlines for Sept 7th…

The second Rapids player to go on loan within a week as Berner makes his way to Phoenix to join the USL’s Rising F.C. Last week it was Caleb Calvert loaned out to the Rapids USL affiliate Charlotte Independence.

Kudos to Kroenke for getting involved with donating to the Red Cross. Stay safe everyone in the Carolinas and the rest of the Southeast with Irma approaching.

Pablo out as Rapids manager…

BREAKING!
The Rapids announced earlier today that Pablo Mastroeni and the club have parted ways. Story here. Rapids assistant coach Steve Cooke has been named interim.

I know I speak for many when I say this. That renewing season memberships for 2018 seems much more likely now.

I’m certain there are a lot of happy linemen and 4th officials in PRO now too.

Burgundy Headlines for Aug 10th…

A lot going on today in Rapids world. Starting with the big news of the day with Dillon Powers.

Thank you Dillon Powers for all that you did in your time here with the Rapids. Best of luck to Sam Hamilton in his loan to Phoenix Rising FC. Sam if not recalled back to the first team before then, will return to Colorado when Phoenix visits Weidner Field to take on the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Sept 9th. Congrats to the Charlotte Independence on growing their current unbeaten streak to 12 games.

MacMath to miss 4-6 weeks…

This afternoon the Rapids announced Zac MacMath had undergone successful knee surgery today and will be out the next 4-6 weeks. Wait, what?

There aren’t many details from the club website. Story here.

Who knows what happened or when this injury came about. Was it from Saturday’s match or has this been a season long lingering issue? Regardless, best wishes on a speedy recovery Zac!

Howard will be in net for the MLS all-star game tomorrow night against Real Madrid. One would guess that he would also be in net for this weekend’s match against Vancouver with Berner as his backup. We’ll have to wait and see.

Rapids add German winger Stefan Aigner…

Willkommen Stefan Aigner!

Wednesday afternoon the Rapids announced the signing of the German born winger from 1860 Munich in what is a 3 1/2 year contract. Story here.

Is this the missing attacking piece to cure the Rapids scoring woes this season? We wont know for some time. A lot of this will depend on how quickly he is able to get comfortable in his new setting of course. How Pablo uses him is a huge factor, because it’s Pablo we’re talking about. How he uses anyone on the roster is and always seems to be a question mark.

The thought looks to be with this signing and with everyone healthy of course, is that Aigner on the right wing, which would have Marlon Hairston moving to right back where he has played a few times this season. Hairston would still be able to provide an attacking option from that position when necessary. This move also would allow Eric Miller to move back into his natural left back position.

Are there more moves to come from the RFO before the transfer window closes? We’ll have to wait and see.

Burgundy Headlines for June 27th…

A look at some of today’s headlines leading up to 5th round action tonight in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, Rapids @ FC Dallas.

I’m hoping for an upset tonight against FC Dallas in the 5th round of the US Open Cup but let’s be honest, it’s not gonna happen. Unless Pablo transforms himself in Pep Guardiola, or Antonio Conte, the Rapids will likely end their US Open Cup run in the same fashion as last year and to the same team. Match can be watched online at ussoccer.com, kickoff 6pm(MT). I think we can expect Pablo to rest most of the bigger names tonight against FC Dallas ahead of this weekend’s league matchup with the Houston Dynamo on Saturday. Gashi now back from injury may see the pitch some tonight.

The U23s match tonight at DSGP couldn’t come at worse time (seriously no pun intended) with kickoff half an hour before the Rapids kickoff with FC Dallas at 6pm.

Burgundy Headlines for June 21st…

It’s matchday for the Rapids as they face the LA Galaxy tonight at DSGP, kick off 7:00. In the meantime here are a couple of headlines for today.

Best of luck to Ryan Madden in his new position as Rapids Director of Communications. Also best of luck to Deshorn Brown in his second stint in MLS. Brown will make his first return to DSGP with DC United against the Rapids August 19th.
