Rapids finally add 2016 Super Draft pick Dennis Castillo to their roster they announced today, story here. Castillo a defender and second round pick(37th) from Virginia Commonwealth University. See what winning does? Of course the Rapids were somewhat forced into needing to make this signing happen with the number of injuries to the backline, where depth is sorely needed.
Congrats Castillo and welcome to the team!
I just got home not long ago from SnowClassico 2, even with a cold and if you weren’t there, shame on you. Here’s a quick recap.
The GOOD – There were a number of things. Jermaine Jones long awaited debut, finishing with a goal and an assist.
The Rapids are undefeated at home, now at 3-0-0.
Badji nets his first goal of the season which turned out to be the game winner in the 81st minute.
Free coffee and hot chocolate for those in attendance, thanks RFO!
The BAD – The weather in some ways. Defense on Ronald Zubar’s goal in the 59th min for RBNY. It’s the exact same play that Dom Dwyer scored on Wedensday for Sporting against the Rapids, unmarked on the back side of the goal. Defense needs to tighten up.
This game could’ve have been worse than the 2-1 loss for RBNY as the Rapids missed many chances around the net, Pappa off the post, Badji off the post, Badji header saved by Robles, Solignac goal called offsides. RBNY weren’t really a threat offensively throughout.
The UGLY – MLS officiating, but hey at least we didn’t have Toledo officiate this game.
The Rapids are now 4-2-1, 3rd place in the Western Conference and in the Supporters Shield race with 13 pts.
The Rapids grab a much needed road win and 3 points from Sporting.
The GOOD – It’s not just a win, but a road win! What they couldn’t do in Salt Lake last week, they managed to do at Sporting. Solignac scored his second in as many games. Gashi gets his first goal, the game winner. Pappa with another assist. The Rapids played to win and not just hold on for a draw and a point.
The BAD – Poor defending, with a depleted line up due to injuries, etc, players are left playing out of position. Showing itself especially on the Dwyer goal leaving him unmarked in the box from the corner kick.
The UGLY – There wasn’t much ugly about this game
The Rapids are now 3-2-1, 10 points in the Western Conference
The Rapids just cant win at Rio Tinto.
The GOOD – The first half, both the start and the final minutes. Shots (14 to 11) and shots on target (6 to 4) were in favor of the Rapids.
The BAD – a depleted bench maybe forced Pablo’s decisions on substitutions, only making one, Badji on for Powers(78th), especially with an upcoming match mid week against Sporting KC.
Rapids lacked possession and did very little to dictate the pace of the game.
The first leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup goes to RSL.
The UGLY – MacMath’s blunder in net or should I say out of the net, leading to the RSL gifted goal by Plata. Sjoberg also gets some of the blame for the RSL goal.
The Rapids are 0-2-1 on the road, and as usual their road record is going to determine whether this team makes the playoffs this season. A road game at division leading Sporting KC coming up on Wednesday, this becomes a must win game for the Rapids.
Rapids through five games are 2-2-1 with 7 points, 6th place in the Western Division. Through the first 5 games of 2015, the Rapids were 1-1-3 with 6 points.
