Claudio Lopez returns to Rapids as Director of Soccer…

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and whatever else you celebrate! I took a little time away and now to get back to my love of soccer, the Rapids and blogging duties here.

So let’s play a little catch up, we last left off with the Rapids losing Tony Cascio and Danny Mwanga to Orlando City in the expansion draft and then later losing Marvell Wynne to San Jose and Kamani Hill in the Re-entry draft back in Dec.

MLS announced the season home openers for the league over a week ago, with the Rapids opening the 2015 campaign on the road in Philly and then play at home 2 weeks later against one of the leagues new kids on the block, NYCFC on March 21.

The latest piece of news from the Rapids is the return of Claudio Lopez to the Rapids in a front office position of Director of Soccer. Is this a good piece to the technical puzzle? While Lopez doesnt have any coaching experience, (didnt we do this with Pablo last season?) he wont be directly in the spotlight like Pablo was last season and will be again this season, so I think this will aid Lopez to do the job he’s been hired to do. Lopez major role will be working one on one with players in developing their skillset. Listen, I’m all for former players who want to return to the club to help it achieve it’s goals, but the problem here is the Rapids are still lacking significant coaching experience in the technical staff. I hope this works out for the best for the team and welcome Lopez back with the club.

Things can only look up for this club in 2015.
